This attractive 1880’s stone cottage had an unsympathetic and impractical rear addition.

 

The challenge was to update the house whilst meeting both Council's Heritage Conservation requirements and the changing needs of the owners and their family.

​

The 1980’s curved footprint to the rear was squared off, gaining valuable extra space and enabling the re-arrangement of the living & kitchen spaces over two levels, creating an "upside-down" plan.

 

This takes advantage of the spectacular city views and provides a separate living room and study with garden access from the lower floor.

A clear distinction was made between the building form of the old house and the new addition, with clean lines & a sophisticated palette of materials.
